To illustrate the spectacular crashing and burning of that doctrine, let me tell you the sad tale of a man called Matt Ridley. He was a columnist on the Daily Telegraph until he became – and I think this tells us something about the meritocratic pretensions of neoliberalism – the hereditary chair of Northern Rock: a building society that became a bank. Eva Rothschild Riches 2007

Submitted by member4

Riches combines two black, triangular Perspex panels displayed at eye level. These panels are joined together along their longest edges at a ninety degree angle and slotted into a corner where the walls meet. Black rods fashioned in ‘V’ shapes are attached to the panels, protruding into the space between them. Whatever angle the sculpture is viewed from, the rods appear entirely contained with the edges of the Perspex. They produce a criss-crossing design and, as the Perspex is shiny, the visual effect of the rods is multiplied by reflections.

It is, of course, a city big on romance and on urban chic. And these striking factors result in no small part from the great seam of inventive energy here
